Variety and Gold House Team Up for 8 Asian Pacifics Up Next List

Variety will publish its inaugural 8 Asian Pacifics Up Next in Entertainment list on May 1 in a special Extra Edition celebrating Gold House’s 2024 A100 and Gold Gala.

Gold House is the leading cultural ecosystem, uniting the Asian Pacific and multicultural communities around common causes, investing capital and resources into independent creators and companies, and showing the world how impactful the Asian Pacific community can be in every industry and endeavor.

Every May, Gold House’s A100, the definitive Asian Pacific award, honors the 100 most impactful Asian Pacific leaders in culture, culminating in an in-person celebration of the honorees at the Gold Gala, the most-viewed Asian Pacific gathering in North America. Previous A100 honorees include Academy Award winners Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, Bela Bajaria (Chief Content Officer, Netflix), Neal Mohan (CEO, YouTube) and many more.

“In the past few years, Asian Pacific creativity has moved from community firsts to industry firsts. From the most-awarded film of all time to the most-viewed series on the world’s largest entertainment platform to one of the fastest-growing musical genres, we’re defining and leading new echelons of creativity. We’re excited to catapult the next artistic leaders to even higher heights with Variety,” said Bing Chen, executive chairman, CEO and co-founder of Gold House.

Variety‘s CEO and group publisher Michelle Sobrino-Stearns said: “For decades, Variety has championed the creative and business accomplishments of underrepresented communities in such important editorial projects as our Impact Lists, Variety 10 to Watch Series and our multiple live events. Partnering with such a prestigious and respected creative organization as Gold House on the new Variety Asian Pacifics Up Next List and these new editorial and event initiatives is an exciting collaborative venture that will benefit the entire industry we serve.”

The 8 Asian Pacifics Up Next in Entertainment list will be selected by a committee of Variety’s editors, reporters and critics, along with a Gold House advisory team. Variety will honor leaders across TV, film, music and theater, including actors, artisans and industry executives, to highlight rising Asian Pacific talent across the global entertainment industry.

“This is an important moment. Since 2017, I’ve seen co-founder Bing Chen and Gold House build bridges between East and West. As a non-profit collective of changemakers, Gold House has sought to unify artists and leaders within the Asian Pacific community. It has championed greater representation through its comprehensive media initiatives. For Variety, to be a part of these important events at the heart of Gold House is like building another bridge, serving as a giant step,” Variety‘s senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay said. “I look forward to Variety being a part of that campaign to shine a spotlight on their initiatives.”

Tangcay continued, “Our 8 Asian Pacifics Up Next collective initiative will further celebrate and honor those rising in our community, and I’m so excited to spearhead that.”

Variety will also serve as the lead media partner for the One House Toasts during the Oscars and Emmys. Led by Gold House in partnership with several leading multicultural organizations — including GLAAD, the NAACP Hollywood Bureau, La Cena, IllumiNative, Harness, Pillars Fund, The Blackhouse Foundation, The Female Quotient and The Latinx House — One House Toasts convene nominees, tastemakers, executives and voters from historically marginalized communities during crucial awards races.

Variety is looking for rising Asian Pacifics in the aforementioned fields to be considered for this inaugural list. Submissions are due March 1 via this form.
