AIG-India Partner Creativeland Studios Taps Shobha Sant as CEO

Creativeland Studios has tapped industry veteran Shobha Sant as its new CEO, Variety can reveal.

Sant brings over 30 years of experience to the role, most recently serving as head of content alliances – films, at billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Jio Studios.

In her new position, Sant will lead Creativeland’s filmed entertainment division and oversee the talent business of AIG-India, the joint venture between Creativeland Studios and Artist International Group. The joint venture seeks to provide Indian talent with opportunities to achieve international acclaim while also introducing international talent to the Indian subcontinent.

Sant will work alongside Creativeland founder and managing director Sajan Raj Kurup and COO Alpa Golcha, who joined the company after stints at Amazon Prime Video India and Dharma Productions.

Prior to her time at Jio Studios, Sant held the CEO position at Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bhansali Productions (“Heeramandi”) for more than five years, during which she also served as a producer on period epic “Padmaavat.”

Creativeland Studios, a group company of Creativeland Worldwide Limited, has been expanding its footprint in the entertainment space. The company co-produced the documentary “The Commandant’s Shadow,” directed by Daniela Volker, which was acquired by Warner Bros. and HBO and is currently playing in U.S. theaters. Additionally, Creativeland Studios produced the sixth season of “No Filter Neha” in partnership with Jio TV.

Kurup said: “I am delighted to have Shobha onboard at Creativeland Studios. With her vast experience and knowledge across films and creative industries globally, we are certain that this alignment of minds will only prove to create new benchmarks. Creativeland Studios is geared towards championing great content and talent, taking India to the world and I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to lead this. We are excited about our slate and the global curators who have joined hands on this common mission.”

Creativeland also operates Creators Inc., a multi-disciplinary U.K. production company that produces content globally across advertising, TV, film, documentary and audio, where Jani Guest serves as CEO and Jamie Jessop as COO.

Sant said: “I am looking forward to this new chapter with Raj, Jani, Alpa, Jamie and the extended team at Creativeland Studios in India and Creators Inc. London to build what we believe will be a new age entertainment ecosystem that focuses on quality content across formats and world-class talent, geared at taking India to the world and bringing the best of world class talent and content to India.”
