India batter Virat Kohli broke his countryman Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI centuries by hitting his 50th ton in the format at the ICC Cricket World Cup.

The former skipper of the Indian team smashed his 50th ODI ton in his team’s encounter against New Zealand at the World Cup semi-final in Mumbai.

Kohli achieved the milestone in the 42nd over off the bowling of Lockie Ferguson. He smashed eight 4s and 1 maximum to reach 100 runs.

This was his first-ever ton in the knockout stage of the Cricket World Cup. He also crossed Tendulkar’s landmark of the most runs in a single edition of the Cricket World Cup, in the 34th over of the India innings.

The ton against New Zealand was his third of the ongoing World Cup — with the earlier two against Bangladesh and South Africa in the earlier stages of the tournament.

The century against Bangladesh helped his side win in Pune and his century against South Africa laid the foundation of a match-winning total at the Eden Gardens.
